#2 Manny Machado: Fantasy Predictions for 2016
Nevermind that there's something in the water in Baltimore that allows guys the durability to play all 162 games in a season. Aside from the "iron man" thing, Manny Machado is a beast on the field and he can help carry your fantasy team all season long.
The best thing about Manny Machado is that he can get on some really hot streaks that just destroy your opponent, but at the same time, even when he's in a slump, he's not typically going 0-for 30 with 15 strikeouts. He's still getting on base here and there, he's still scoring runs, and he's still driving in runs. Plus, like we mentioned above, he played all 162 games last season, so you can count on him to be in your lineup every day. There's nothing worse than starting a guy on a Sunday when you need the stats the most, only to find out in the box score that he took a day off to rest. |
Manny Machado Fantasy Stats and Indicators
|
Manny Machado's numbers were solid across the board, hitting .286 with 35 HR, 86 RBI and 102 Runs scored. He also stole 20 bases, and getting that out of a third baseman is ridiculous. Now, don't expect that out of him. Like Todd Frazier last year, we predicted a drop in his stolen base production, but you can still safely count on Machado breaking double-digit steals this season - not because he's crazy fast, ind you, but because he has become a smart base runner. In his short career thus far, he is learning how to read pitchers and catchers, so he's stealing bases more on smarts than on speed.
Another thing we like about Manny Machado is that he's still super young: he turns 24 in July, and he's already entering his 5th big-league season. That bodes well in many, many ways. He hasn't even hit his full-on power groove, yet, and that may happen this season (although we still expect 30+ HR - nothing too crazy).
Al in all, we predict Manny Machado will equal his output from last year, but he'll add about 10 more RBI while trimming off about 10 stolen bases.
