#14 Marcus Semien Fantasy Predictions for 2016
We’ve had our eye on Marcus Semien for a while, even though he’s only going 25 this season. In 2014, he only played in 64 games, but he showed serious promise and even helped fantasy teams fill a spot, predominantly playing 3rd base and 2nd base. Last year, after going to Oakland, he was moved to Shortstop. He was pretty atrocious at short, committing 35 errors, but whatever, man. This is fantasy baseball. The bottom line for you on draft day is that Marcus Semien’s offensive stats are solid and he qualifies at shortstop.
In 2014, Semien hit just .234, but he hit 6 HR in 64 games, roughly on pace for roughly 15 HR. Last year, it was no surprise that he hit exactly 15 HR in 155 games. He also improved his batting average to .257 (a nearly-respectable level), he drove in 45 RBI and scored 65 Runs. He even stole 11 bases, and he did all this in the cavernous, pitcher-friendly Oakland Coliseum. |

Word on the street is that Semien will continue to play Shortstop for the Oakland A’s in 2016, glove be damned. The A’s see that he’s still only 25 and his bat is enough to keep him on the field. Once he hits the 26-30 age range, we may start to see 20+ HR power. For now, though, expect Marcus Semien to hit 15-20 HR while driving in 60 RBI. He may figure out how to steal more bases, but don’t get your hopes up. Let that be a nice surprise if it happens.
